THE SOLE ATTRACTION: SEEING CHRIST ACROSS ALL SCRIPTURE

By Akin Ojumu

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is ultimately a divine autobiography of the Messiah, penned through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Every single book is intentional. Together, they form a magnificent, cohesive narrative centered on one Person: Jesus, the Anointed One.

Christ is not merely the main attraction of Scripture; He is the sole attraction. Every historical account, poem, prophecy, and miracle is designed with a singular purpose: to point us to Christ, anchor our faith in Him as the Savior, and unfold the grand story of redemption.

Luke 24:27
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

John 1:45
“Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

John 5:39,46
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me...For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote of Me.

John 20:30-31
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

To interpret and understand the Bible accurately, we must read it through a Christ-centered lens. Scottish theologian Sinclair Ferguson beautifully captures this concept in his essay, Preaching Christ from the Old Testament, describing Jesus as a “hermeneutical prism” (an interpretive lens):

Standing in the light of the New Testament and looking back at the Old Testament, Christ acts as a prism. His unified truth separates into a brilliant spectrum of individual colors, promises, and shadows across the ancient pages.

Looking forward from the Old Testament, we see how those diverse, multi-colored strands of revelation converge, harmonize, and find their absolute fulfillment in Him.

Whether a passage highlights a single “color” of prophecy or a complex combination of historical patterns, every thread of Scripture ultimately unites in Christ Jesus.
