NIGERIA: THE RECKONING

Image
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a helpless people. Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire - they all conspire together. Nigerian rulers are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain. Woe to those who make unjust laws, and to those who issue oppressive decrees. Woe to those who shed the blood of the innocent.

JOY COMES IN THE MORNING

This is a particularly trying time for our entire family. We are overwhelmed with emotions at the transition to glory of our beloved Matriarch, the pillar of the family. Her sudden and unexpected passing to be with the LORD has left our hearts overtaken with doleful dispositions.  Yet, even at this rather trying times, the LORD reminds us that weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. As we wade through the deluge of bereavement, our Father in Heaven reassures us that tomorrow is going to be a LOVELY DAY. Where do we even begin in eulogizing a selfless soul who poured out her life to fill up human vessels empty of hope and facing uncertain future? How do we talk about someone who lived her life in the service of others? What words do we use to explain to a mortal world that an angel walked in our midst for almost eight decades but has now gone to take her place amongst the saints before the throne of God? Mummy, your life was the ultimate fulfillment of the three grand essentials of happiness. You always had something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for. Your selflessness was out of this world. Every precious moment of your storied life was spent watering the barren field of humanity and making them richer. You showered love and kindness on barren lives and you turned them into fertile grounds. Your home was a refuge to the lost, and the doors were always opened night and day, no matter what. You welcomed strangers with open arms, and nurtured sojourners with open hearts.
