LE DIPLOMATE BOLA TINUBU

Image
By Akin Ojumu On his INEC EC9 Form, Bola Tinubu checked “No” in response to the question, “Have you voluntarily acquired citizenship of any other country?” Under oath and at risk of penalty of perjury, Bola Tinubu swore that he had neither been a citizen of another country nor held a passport of another nation. As we ’ ve all come to expect, Bola Tinubu deliberately and intentionally lied to the Nigerian electorate. In a blatant act of deception, the man who wants to become the next president of Nigeria hid the fact that he is a Guinean citizen who holds a Guinean diplomatic passport. For the benefit of those who may not know, diplomatic passports are issued to government diplomats and consuls stationed abroad. Diplomats represent and further the interests and policies of their countries while serving overseas. In essence, Bola Tinubu is a Guinean diplomat stationed in Nigeria. As a high-ranking officer of the Guinean diplomatic corps, Tinubu’s duties are to serve the interests of the

GRAND OLD PARTY (GOP) OF JOBLESSNESS

Image
By Akin Ojumu From George H.W. Bush to Donald J. Trump, every Republican Party President since 1989 has managed to saddle the United States with a heavy burden of higher unemployment rate at the end of their tenure than when they first took office. In contrast, every Democratic Party President within that time period has been able to relieve the country of that burden by leaving behind a lower unemployment rate at the end of their tenure than at the start. While the GOP is the party of joblessness, the Democratic Party is the party of getting things done. Whenever the GOP takes control, they have a habit of leaving a hot mess behind. On the other hand, the Democratic party comes to office to clean up the mess and put the house in order. The difference between the two major political parties couldn’t be starker. While one is a party of chaos, the other is a party of order. The GOP breaks things up, the Democrats puts them back together. While the Republicans are given to high drama, the

FAST FOODS OF HUMAN RELIGIOSITY

Image
By Akin Ojumu It’s Easter Sunday. Christians everywhere are celebrating the resurrection of the Messiah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the only Begotten Son of God, the Redeemer of mankind. Churches are parked with congregants dressed in bottom of the wardrobe attires. Clerics, garbed in medieval costumes, perform rites and rituals to commemorate the annual religious carnival. Following familiar liturgies and customary ceremonies, incense is burnt to wave off evil spirits and prayers are chanted to invoke the Holy Spirit. Leading up to today is the Lent, the forty days preceding Easter dedicated to fasting and penance by the faithful. This is a re-enactment of the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus fasted before commencing His earthly ministry of reconciliation. Unsurprisingly, many of the religious traditions and symbols that are now regular fixtures of Easter cannot be found in the Bible. These practices derive their origin from pagan cultures of ancient times. The following are a few of t

NIGERIA’S DOWNWARD SPIRAL OF LEADERSHIP

Image
By Akin Ojumu In many developed and developing nations, leadership tends to evolve along a trajectory of transformation, progression, and improvement. For the most part, successive generations of leaders are better versions of the people they succeeded. Particular premium is placed on choosing the best of the best to lead the rest. Not so in Nigeria. Unlike in these civilized places, the arc of leadership in Nigeria bends towards the least common denominator. Since independence, the characters that emerge as leaders in Nigeria tend to come from the very bottom of the barrel. The worst of the worst always find a path to power. As the years go by, the profile of leadership in Nigeria gets dimmer and dimmer. Nigerians have the habit of reaching into the depth of the sewer to pluck the dregs of the society to rule them. Leadership has been benchmarked to the crudest and vilest. The most crooked, violent, and unscrupulous you are, the better are your chances of getting elevated to the posit

TRUMP ARRESTED LIKE JESUS WAS ARRESTED

Image
According to MAGA drama queen, Marjorie Taylor Greene: “President Trump is joining some of the most incredible people, being arrested today. Um...Nelson Mandela was arrested...served time in prison. Jesus! Jesus was arrested and martyred by...um...the Roman government...” This one left me mouth agape... When you think you’ve seen it all, you are hit in the face with a further descent into the depth of depravity. Can somebody please help this woman ’s ignorance by making her understand that Jesus was not a serial adulterer and an out-of-control philanderer? Jesus never had sex with a pornstar, covered it up by paying her hush money in shekels, and then falsified his business records to hide the payment. There’s no bottom for these people. Like the followers of Bala Blu, these MAGA morons will go to any length and say just about anything in defense of their unscrupulous and scandalous cult leader.

ORIGIN OF EVIL

Image
By Akin Ojumu I must confess that I do not particularly understand the point of this commentary. There are so many erroneous assertions in here that it’s impossible to address them all. First off, I don’t know where this individual got the idea that the sovereignty of God is “political”. “God is spirit and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24). God operates a spiritual, and not a political, kingdom. To equate the sovereign rule of God to that of earthly kingdom of sinful men who are full of evil is an abomination of the highest order. The earth is a colony???? Never heard that one before. According to Dictionary.com, “Colony is a country or area under the full or partial political control of another country, typically a distant one, and occupied by settlers from that country.” So, if, as we read in Psalm 24:1, it’s indeed true that “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,” how can the earth then be God’s colony at the same time? The Book of

GOOD SAMARITAN STORY REIMAGINED (PART IV)

“Who Is My Neighbor?” By Akin Ojumu When the lawyer got up to test Jesus by asking what he thought was a difficult question for a lowly son of a carpenter to answer, he didn’t expect the response he got.  Here was a cocky religious scholar, vast in the Law of Moses, facing off with Jesus, son of Joseph, a carpenter from the backwoods of Galilee.  To the onlooking crowd and the disciples present, it was not a fair match. The lawyer and everybody expected Jesus to say something stupid and incriminate Himself in the process. “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 10:25). The lawyer wasn’t asking the question because he did not know the answer. Unlike Nicodemus who came to Jesus sincerely seeking salvation, this insolent braggart wasn’t seeking the road to Heaven.  This was a self-righteous man trying to demonstrate his right standing with God because of his expertise in Mosaic Law. The man was simply showboating his uprightness in the eyes of the people. He was not a se
