NO! ABRAHAM DID NOT LIVE 375 YEARS
By Akin Ojumu
During the recently concluded Holy Ghost Service, the Daddy GO of the RCCG Religious Enterprise LTD claimed that Abraham lived for 375 years.
It is a remarkable assertion. The only problem? It completely contradicts the Bible.
When we open the Scriptures to Genesis 25:7, Abraham’s age at the time of his death is entirely unambiguous.
Genesis 25:7 (KJV)
“And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.”
Genesis 25:7 (NIV)
“Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years.”
Genesis 25:7 (NLT)
“Abraham lived for 175 years.”
Some will inevitably argue that this was merely an honest mistake – a simple slip of the tongue. But that defense doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. The RCCG Daddy GO didn’t just misread a number; he went on to build an entire commentary around it, explicitly contrasting Abraham’s fictional 375-year lifespan with that of his son, Isaac. This wasn’t a momentary glitch; it was a glaring symptom of poor preparation.
Predictably, defenders of “Daddy GO” will accuse me of being overly nitpicky or splitting hairs. But scriptural precision is not a minor detail. As Paul explicitly charged Timothy in his letter.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)
“Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”
When it comes to teaching the Word of God, accuracy is a baseline requirement, not an optional luxury. Teachers and preachers of the Gospel cannot afford to be cavalier.
Getting the facts of the Bible wrong is not an exemption for the RCCG Daddy; it is the norm. The man is a firehose of false teachings. Every time the man opens his mouth to preach, an avalanche of error pours out.
Consider the irony, for a moment. Dr. Enoch Adeboye is a trained mathematician holding a PhD in Applied Mathematics. He understands better than most the fundamental concept of GIGO: Garbage In, Garbage Out. In data science and mathematics, if you feed flawed data into a system, the resulting analysis or model prediction will be equally flawed.
Theology works exactly the same way. When a preacher feeds his audience scriptural garbage, it warps their theological baseline. Life ultimately imitates theology; darkness manifests through both bad doctrine and compromised living. If your foundational beliefs are flawed, shallow or inaccurate, your spiritual life will reflect that exact weakness when trials arrive.
As David reminds us of the purity of God’s Word in the Book of Psalms:
Psalm 12:6
“The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace... purified seven times.”
God’s Word is flawless and demands precise handling. When we distort it, we rob the hearers of its truth and compromise the very foundation of their faith.
