MARY WASN’T THE FIRST VIRGIN ANGEL GABRIEL VISITED
By Akin Ojumu
There’s a lot of brouhaha swirling around Biodun Fatoyinbo lately for the remarks he made during a recent sermon – read that as business lecture – at Korede Komaiya & Son’s commercial enterprise. During the sales pitch given to a bunch of saliva-drooling biblical doofuses, Fatoyinbo dismissed the late sorcerer turned false apostle Ayo Babalola as a man who had heavy-duty anointing but died a pauper.
The raging firestorm over Fatoyinbo’s comments is one of the many problems I have with church folks in Nigeria. These people suffer from a chronic debilitating spiritual disease called Misplaced Outrage Syndrome. This disease causes them to go ballistic at the wrong people for all the wrong reasons. It’s a perennial case of missing the forest for the tree.
If you watched the entire prosperity motivational spiel, which ran for almost 90 minutes, what Biodun Fatoyinbo said about Ayo Babalola wasn’t the most atrocious thing that came out of his mouth. Forgive me, I fail to understand what all the fuss is about. Fatoyinbo dismissed Ayo Babalola as a wretchedly poor heavy-duty anointed apostle. So what? A living charlatan dragging a dead charlatan is not my cup of tea. I really couldn’t care less about what wolves in sheep’s clothing say about themselves.
There were actually several other things Fatoyinbo said in his business seminar that were outrightly egregious and downright blasphemous. What makes my blood boil isn’t the shade he threw at Ayo Babalola’s legacy, but the way the Gospel huckster twisted and distorted the Scriptures to promote his doctrine of demons. I’m grievously offended by the way he glibly abused and flippantly misused the Word of God for his own evil end.
Biodun Fatoyinbo’s 90-minute elocution on financial flow in ministry is a masterpiece in doctrinal gobbledygook. From beginning to the end, the whole cockamamie nonsense reeks of errors. It’s as though Fatoyinbo went to Korede Komaiya’s house of horror, pulled down his pants, and took a dunk on the pulpit. The guy just stood there and deliberately let out a steaming pile of rancid excrement on his friend’s altar. I’m guessing it’s payback for what Komaiya did when he was at COZA the other day when he threw up a malodorous vomit of heresies and blasphemies on Fatoyinbo’s altar.
This 30-second video clip is the footage of one out of the several outrageous things that came out of Biodun Fatoyinbo’s mouth during his business seminar at Korede Komaiya business center. If there’s anything Fatoyinbo said that’s deserving of outrage, this is it. The abominable remarks in this video clip should make every true follower of Christ righteously indignant.
According to Biodun Fatoyinbo, Mary, the mother of Jesus, wasn’t actually the first virgin visited by angel Gabriel and told that she would conceive and give birth to the prophesied and long-awaited Messiah. She only happened to be the first to believe God’s messenger and not necessarily the first visited by God’s messenger.
Let’s hear Fatoyinbo in all his erudite vacuousness:
“I am one of the pastors that believe that Mary was not the first person nor the first virgin that Gabriel went to. Bible does not say, “Mary shall be pregnant with the child.” It says, “A virgin.” Because the Angel said, “Behold the handmaiden will not...he said…he said…for he said…he said…he said…he said…be…the…the woman said, “Be unto me according to your word.” He said, “Blessed is she that believeth for now…” the Greek says, “Now there shall be a performance. Now.” And it disappeared.”
What this clueless man is saying here is that when God told Isaiah to prophecy to Ahaz, the king of Judah, that a virgin would conceive and bear a son whose name shall be called, Immanuel, He did not actually have a particular virgin, named Mary, in mind.
Isaiah 7:14 (KJV)
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Biodun Fatoyinbo believes that what transpired between angel Gabriel and Mary, and recorded in Luke 1:26-38, must have played out several other times with several other virgins prior to the angel getting to Mary.
What distinguished angel Gabriel’s encounter with Mary from the other virgins was the fact that Mary believed while the other virgins did not. The reason God chose Mary over the other virgins was because she believed whereas the others failed to believe.
If one wants to extend the illogic of this unbiblical and ungodly interpretation of this meeting between angel Gabriel and Mary, it’s not that farfetched to conclude that by the time Gabriel got to Mary, he must have been exhausted and disillusioned since all the virgins he had interviewed for the enviable job of being the mother of the Messiah had failed the job interview because they didn’t believe.
Up to the time he got to Mary, every single virgin angel Gabriel had auditioned for the role of the Mother of Jesus had flunked due to their unbelief. Then after a protracted day of long interviews and boring auditions, angel Gabriel came to Mary. Perhaps expecting the interview to go like the others, angel Gabriel was shocked to find that Mary nailed it.
It’s not inconceivable to imagine that had any of the other virgins in the land of Israel passed the interview with angel Gabriel, instead of us talking about Mary the Mother of Jesus, it would have been Martha the Mother of Jesus, or Ruth the Mother of Jesus, or Hannah the Mother of Jesus, or perhaps, Jezebel the Mother of Jesus, for all we know.
This cockamamie nonsense espoused by Biodun Fatoyinbo is what happens when wolves in sheep’s clothing lead the sheep of God. It’s another instance of a biblically illiterate so-called pastor exposing his profound ignorance. If Fatoyinbo cared at all about getting the Bible right, he would have done his due diligence by studying the Bible before opening his foul mouth to dish out heresies.
Had Biodun Fatoyinbo been remotely interested in the truth, he would have read up Isaiah 7:14 in other Bible translations. What he would have discovered is that in nearly every other Bible translation, Isaiah’s prophecy was about “The Virgin” and not “A Virgin”. God did have a particular virgin, named Mary, in mind when Isaiah prophesied.
Isaiah 7:14 (ESV)
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, THE VIRGIN shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: THE VIRGIN will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, THE VIRGIN shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14 (NLT)
“All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! THE VIRGIN will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).”
Isaiah 7:14 (Amplified)
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Listen carefully, THE VIRGIN will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will call his name Immanuel (God with us).”
Virgin Mary being chosen as the person who would be the mother of the Messiah was solely by the sovereign will of God and not because Mary believed angel Gabriel who brought her the news. The choice was God’s and not dependent on what Mary did or did not do. The Almighty God didn’t lick His finger, raise it in the air, to see which of the virgins would believe His messenger.
By believing that God needed the cooperation of mortal man to effect His divine purpose, Fatoyinbo reveals the darkness in his soul. This charlatan diminishes the supremacy of the Creator of the Universe while he elevates the superiority of mere man. That Biodun Fatoyinbo thinks God didn’t know ahead of time which of the virgins in Israel would be the mother of the Messiah is evident of a deep-seated hatred he has towards God. The man is an enemy of God.
Preserving the sanctity of Scriptures is of no concern to the enemies of God like Biodun Fatoyinbo. They couldn’t be bothered about upholding the fidelity of the Word of God. To these people, Scriptures are nothing more than implements or accompaniments in their toolbox. As far as they are concerned, God’s Word is not meant to be preached but to be cherry picked to push their false narratives and to promote the imaginations of their darkened soul.
Ripping Bible texts out of proper contexts is what Gospel hucksters like Biodun Fatoyinbo do best. It’s for this reason that God will rip them apart, bind them with chains, and throw them into the utter darkness of hell.
