YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE, O MAN
Right this moment, hundreds of thousands of people are getting duped by religious charlatans. There’s no minute that goes by that someone, somewhere, is not fallen victim of a scam perpetrated by impostors standing behind the pulpit. Heartbreaking stories abound of innocent people, passionately seeking after God, who have ended up as prey in the jaws of wolves in sheep’s clothing.
As much as one might like to empathize with these victims of the duplicitous savages in the Church, we must not let empathy obscure a glaring reality. In an age such as ours where there’s information overload, anyone who finds themselves a victim of religious con men have only got themselves to blame. If anyone chooses not to avail themselves of the vast array of rich resources out there to educate and inform themselves about the truth, such a person definitely deserves to be victimized by charlatans.
If all you do is to sit idly and passively consume the man-centered, seeker-sensitive, people-pleasing, ear-scratching, ponderous platitudes your general overseers, apostles, prophets, bishops, pastors, and the like feed you on routine basis, you have no excuse, O man. Saying you were misled won’t cut it. You chose to surrender your disbelief. You chose to believe in a lie. So, you live with the consequences of your poor choices.
It isn’t that you are unfamiliar with the biblical injunction to all Christians that we are to zealously and persistently give our maximum effort to studying the Word of God. We have to do this in order to know and understand God’s Word accurately. It is by an accurate understanding that we immune ourselves against the disastrous effect of false teachings propagated by those who distort and twist the Word of God for their own evil intentions. It's by so doing that we please God and not blush with shame and embarrassment in His presence.
2 Timothy 2:15
“Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman who accurately handles the word of truth.”
That we are to be like the Bereans is not news to you. You can’t claim you are not familiar with God’s warning that we should not believe every claim of “thus saith the Lord.” I’m sure you are aware that we are to meet every claim of esoteric spiritual encounters, such as drinking tea with God and Jesus walking into your room, with a heavy dose of skepticism.
1 John 4:1
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Sadly, many of you, even after reading this commentary, will continue to celebrate and venerate the wolves in sheep’s clothing who make merchandise of you and tell you cock and bull stories of encounters with God. Just know that I’m not going to shed a tear for you when you eventually realize that you are just a prey in the hands of your daddy in the lord.
No one can claim that they have no way of telling the truth of God from the lie of Satan. What constitutes biblical Christianity and true Gospel are not unknowable to us. Books written about historical Christian tradition by men like Augustine of Hippo, Polycarp of Smyrna, Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, R.C. Sproul, John MacArthur, etc., are accessible, available, and affordable for anyone interested in enriching their understanding of Christianity, its founding, the doctrines and teachings of the early Church fathers in the immediate post-Apostolic period.
2 Corinthians 2:17
“For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”
The aforementioned men are God’s gift to Christianity. If God had any generals at all, it would be these men. Unlike the false teachers and heretics whom you fondly call powerful men of God today, these men are not peddlers of God’s word. These are brilliant theologians and Bible scholars whose writings have greatly shaped my understanding of Scripture. They have in no small measure influenced my Christian thinking and perspectives by their teachings.
If you really desire to be free from the deception that’s out there, I recommend the writings and teachings of these men. I know your life will never be the same again if you do so.
