A NATION IN FREE FALL

By Akin Ojumu

Nothing good can come out of a darkened soul. It’s delusional to expect a bad tree to produce good fruit. The fruit of a poisonous tree is always poisonous. To eat from it is suicidal.

A nation cannot endure for long when the worst of the people are its leaders. When the vilest in the land are in control, the nation withers and dies. Anarchy, chaos, and upheaval are the results, when a mob of vagabonds, scallywags, and lowlifes rule.

Flourishing nations always put their best people forward at all times. In the nations that thrive, the best and the brightest tend to hold the highest offices in the land. For a land to enjoy peace and prosperity, miscreants and scoundrels must be kept far away from the seat of power.

When flourishing nations make the mistake of handing the keys to the kingdom to a hoodlum, they quickly cross correct and rectify their error. Upon realization of their folly, they institute a corrective and preventive action plan to make sure it never happens again.

The exact opposite tends to happen in nations that are moribund. Rather than change course and correct their errors, they double down. Leaving everything to fate, they continue in their downward spiral. In an act of resolute defiance, they press on towards their free fall.

Under the most malevolent person ever to hold any nation’s highest office, Nigeria has commenced its descent into a downward spiral. This spiral has not reached its nadir, the turbulent fall has just begun. At this point along the way, Nigerians can be confident that the worst is yet to come.

As long as Nigeria continues on the path its on, theres no hope for the country. If they like, let them go and spend sleepless nights on the mountain top, itll be all for naught. The people can pray until saliva drys up in their mouth, nothing is going to change. They may choose to fast until they starve and turn blue in the face, the people’s dire situation will only get more dire.

Neither is this a wish nor a curse, it is simply stating the obvious. This is the inevitable fate of reprobate nations, and it is what becomes of degenerate people.
