HEROINE OF YESTERDAY’S ELECTION

By Akin Ojumu

Bludgeoned by APC thugs and hoodlums, the lady in this photo refused to bend. Bruised and beaten by touts and miscreants of Bala Blu, she would not break. They tried to steal her vote, but she instead shoved her PVC down their throats. She exercised her franchise and would not be denied.

This is the face of democracy in Nigeria; its democracy the Nigerian way. You pay for it in pounds of flesh and pints of blood. Not satisfied with taking your voice and your rights, theyll take your limbs and steal your life as well. Its government by the godfathers, by the bottom-feeders, and by the area boys and motor park gangbangers.

This photo epitomizes the evil that resides within the soul of Nigeria. It’s a representation of the dehumanization of the Nigerian people by those who would want to cling to power by all means. The photo captures the brute force deployed by the cruel rulers of Nigeria to enslave ordinary Nigerians in their own homeland. It’s a photo that captures the cruelty of the lords of Nigeria.

What you see in this photo is the length to which the power-hungry rulers of Nigerians will go to hang on to power. These callous souls will maim and kill to get their way if need be. And, not so surprisingly, there’ll always be despicable Nigerians who would hire themselves out to be turned into the blunt instrument of mayhem and implement of violence in the hands of the oppressors.

By her action, this fearless lady puts to shame all the cowardly Nigerians who stayed home and refused to come out to vote because they were afraid of what may happen. This womans bravery laid bare the gutlessness of those who hid under their beds scared to death of their own shadows. The blood streaking down her plastered swollen face is an indictment on all the lazy bums and couch potatoes at home who watched as history pass them by.

This woman shames all the wimpish men and women who are warlords on social media but are too timid and intimidated to come out and vote. These spineless lots should cover their faces in embarrassment whenever they see this photo.

Lastly and most importantly, in this photo is the unbreakable spirit of a few Nigerians in full display. This courageous woman symbolizes the resilience and resolve of the handful of people who are willing and ready to take their country back from those who have oppressed them since the founding of the country.

What this photo shows is that there are still some remnants of men of courage and women of conviction ready to lay down their lives for Nigeria. These are ordinary Nigerians who would go to extraordinary length to achieve freedom and have vowed, “Give me liberty, or give me death!”

When it’s all said and done, the tenacious lady in this photo is the heroine of the Nigerias 2023 election. As far as I’m concerned, she has earned the highest honor in the land, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
