FEMI FANI-KAYODE, THE LOT LIZARD
A few choice words come to mind when I think of Nigerian politicians.
They are amoral, immoral, diabolical, soulless, corrupt, money-grubbing, fickle, unsavory, unruly, violent, repugnant, seedy, rotten, selfish, uncaring, grasping, insensitive, thoughtless, visionless, bombastic, arrogant, egocentric, egomaniac, narcissists.
All these and many more can be used to describe a character called Femi Fani-Kayode. This high-sounding windbag, who prides himself as an intellectual and influencer, personifies everything that’s wrong with Nigerians and their politics.
Here was a guy, who in a series of tweets in 2019, eviscerated Bola Tinubu, calling the mentally declining old man a quisling desperate serf who is a slave to his ambition and a plague to his people. In the 5-part tweet, Fani-Kayode accused Tinubu of selling his soul to the devil and his conscience to the North. As he puts it, Tinubu is a shameless soul and a wicked old man who is ready to sacrifice anyone and anything to become president.
Barely 3 years later, Femi Fani-Kayode has done a neck breaking summersault. The man who dunked such a lengthy harangue on Tinubu in 2019 has now become a cheerleader and one of the most obnoxious spokespersons for Bola Tinubu, the man about whom he said, “I make this pronouncement today: as long as Jesus sits on the throne, he will fail woefully.” Fani-Kayode is now working to achieve that woeful failure.
It takes a degree of shamelessness, self-humiliation, and lack of self-respect for anyone to go back and serve as a lackey to a man for whom they harbor such deep resentments and about whom they used such unflattering words. You cannot turnaround to genuflect and kiss the behind of a man for whom you hold such disdain and contempt if you are not a bootlicker.
A man who would crawl groveling back to the very same person he once accused of selling his soul to the devil is an utter disgrace of a human being. Anyone who would turn himself into an underling of a man he once described as a plague to his people is indeed a despicable soul.
This type of behavior should come at no surprise to anyone. It runs in the family. Like his father before him, Femi Fani-Kayode is a self-serving grifter who will ingratiate himself to anyone in power and would readily and cheaply sell his soul to the highest bidder.
American long-haul truck drivers have a name for such people. They call them lot lizards. These are dishonorable creatures of no virtue who crawl from one dingy dark spot to another whoring themselves out to anyone for a buck or less.
And as the Book of Proverbs 26:11 says, Femi Fani-Kayode is like a dog that returns to its vomit and a fool who repeats his folly.
