BATS ARE CARRIERS OF DEADLY DISEASES

By Akin Ojumu

With their bulging beady eyes and razor-sharp fangs, BATs are sinister and spooky. They find dwelling in deep damp dark caves where the light of day doesn’t shine.

When all other creatures go about their business during the daytime, BATs sleep all day long hanging upside down. It’s at nighttime that you’d find BATs sneaking around like a thief in the night. They are creatures of malicious intentions and varmints of malevolent designs.

Of all the attributes of BATs, the most nefarious is the fact that they harbor some of the most dangerous microorganisms that infect humans. BATs are vectors for deadly pathogens that cause pandemics and epidemics.

Here’s a sample of the fatal viruses and pernicious microorganisms that BATs carry:

SARS-CoV
SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
MERS-CoV
Ebola Virus
Marburg Virus
Nipah Virus
Hendra Virus
Rabies
Histoplasmosis
Salmonellosis
Yersiniosis

From among a teeming population of 200 million people, Nigerians are considering making a BAT president. A foolhardy people clamor for a carrier of deadly plagues to rule their land. If this isn’t suicidal, I don’t know what is. Simply put, this is kamikaze on steroid.

Seeing as though Nigerians are stubbornly indignant on electing a BAT as president and since they are so intransigently determined to commit a consequential unforced error of making a carrier of pathogens the ruler of their country, it’s critical they are once again reminded of the danger they are playing with. Nigerians must be made aware what such a monumental decision portends for their future.

In 1 Samuel 8:11-18, the LORD sent Samuel to warn the children of Israel of the atrocities the king they demanded would inflict on them:

“These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen and to run before his chariots. And he will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest, and to make his implements of war and the equipment of his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his servants. He will take the tenth of your grain and of your vineyards and give it to his officers and to his servants. He will take your male servants and female servants and the best of your young men and your donkeys and put them to his work. He will take the tenth of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves. And in that day, you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”

There’s still time to make amends and stop this from happening. Nigerians still have an opportunity to take a step back from this dangerous precipice where they stand ready to plunge to certain death. Anyone in their right mind knows very well that electing BAT as president will not end well for the country. A BAT presidency is bound to produce a pandemic of unmitigated disaster.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
