CHRISTIANITY ISN’T MYSTICISM (PART II)
By Akin Ojumu
In His sovereignty, God does whatever He wants, whenever He wants, wherever He wants, to whomever He wants, and however He wants. As such, God is still very much in the business of doing miracles, even today.
However, you cannot cajole God or twist His arms to do your bidding. Miracles don’t happen simply because you make them happen, or because you want them to happen. They only happen when it pleases God to make them happen.
Psalm 115:3
“Our God is in heaven; He does as He pleases.”
Psalm 135:6
“Whatever the LORD pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.”
Therefore, giving vulnerable people a false hope of miracles is a cruel thing. It’s only a heartless preacher that would sell desperate people the bill of goods of false expectations that by coming to a crusade or attending a prayer vigil, their miracle is guaranteed.
All authority has been given to Jesus, and not to anyone else. Those who think they have the power and authority to perform miracles need a psychiatric examination. Such individuals are most definitely suffering from delusions of grandeur.
Matthew 28:18
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.””
God is a God of order. Where He is present, there’s bound to be order, structure, and sanity. A gathering where anarchy, chaos, and confusion reign is not one under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Unruly and disorderly assemblies are tabernacles of demons.
1 Corinthians 14:33
“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”
Ephesians 5:18
“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.”
Our God detests the proud and He does not share His glory with any man. Wherever the Spirit of God is, Jesus alone is magnified. Churches where you find mortal men being deified, are edifices to man glory where the Holy Spirit does not dwell. Where the Holy Spirit is operating, Christ Jesus is lifted up, while everybody else bows down and fades into the background.
Isaiah 42:8
“I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols.”
Proverbs 16:5
“Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished.”
John 15:26
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
Getting slain in the spirit is not a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Falling down, supposedly, under the anointing is a practice that originated from pagan cults. These are terms coined and popularized by the false teachers of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements. Such displays are performative theater purposefully designed by charlatans to whip people up into religious ecstasy and euphoria, which they employ as instruments for manipulation and control.
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
1 Corinthians 14:40
“But everything must be done in a proper and orderly manner.”
Speaking gibberish is not the same thing as speaking in tongues. Those who manifested the Holy Spirit’s gift of tongues in the Bible did so by speaking intelligible human language that they did not originally and ordinarily speak or understand. The gibberish and mutterings and groanings practiced in certain Churches are the demonic counterfeits of the real gift of tongues that the Holy Spirit gave. These are practices that belong in Eastern mysticism.
Acts 2:4
“And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”
Hear this, those of you who have been taught that, by decreeing and declaring, you can create your own reality. Your decrees and declarations are mere empty words spoken into thin air. They can no more create your reality than they can create a loaf of bread out of thin air.
Making positive confessions is not praying. Pronouncing decrees when you pray, is not prayer. You aren’t praying if all you are doing is making declarations. Prayer is a request made to God. Supplication is an urgent request exclusively addressed to God to meet an urgent need. If you want your prayer answered, you must, with a humble heart, make your requests known to God. And that requires asking.
Matthew 6:11-13
“Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
James 4:2b
“You do not have, because you do not ask.”
Philippians 4:6
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Decreeing and declaring, aka Manifesting or Law of Attraction, is a practice with origin in a metaphysical occult movement known as New Thought. It was something that religious cults did until it got introduced into mainline Christianity by false teachers like EW Kenyon, Kenneth Hagin, and Kenneth Copeland through their heretical Word of Faith Movement.
Matthew 6:7
“And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.”
In conclusion, enough already of the hocus-pocus esotericism. Let go of the pseudo-profound transcendentalism. Quit the New Age and New Thought (Mesmerism) performative nonsense all dressed up in a Jesus mascot. Stick to the Bible and you won’t deviate into myth and mysticism.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
