PASTOR ADEBOYE’S GOD IS A PETTY TRADER
By Akin Ojumu
If you really want to know what a man truly believes, pay attention to what they say in their unguarded moments. It’s those ill-considered, spur-of-the-moment, offhand comments that reveal the thoughts and intents of the heart of man.
At last Friday night Holy Ghost Service, Pastor Adeboye tried to clarify the comments he made the previous day when it sounded as though he was apologizing for condemning non-tithers to hell fire. Daddy GO made it abundantly clear that he was sorry for nothing, pretty much. His mistake, he told the crowd, was the fact that he limited them to a mere 10%.
While doing his rebuttal and retraction, or whatever, Pastor Adeboye proceeded to make the following remarks:
“If you trade with God, you will not suffer a loss.”
I know that to the masses of people who worship Pastor Adeboye, these remarks may sound innocuous and a nothing burger. In the ears of many of his admirers who will hear it, there’s no there there in this comment. Nothing in these remarks will raise any alarm in the mind of Daddy GO’s children.
Yet, those who study their Bible will find the sentiments conveyed in those ten words spoken by the GO dumbfounding. For those who have an idea of what Scripture actually says, Pastor Adeboye’s remarks are a revelation of the god that he worships. It should scandalize anyone who has the littlest fear of God in them to hear a prominent preacher reduce the Almighty God to a mere commodity merchant who trades favors to the highest bidder.
A god that you trade with is no god at all. If you have to haggle with your god, you are worshipping an idol. A transactional god who demands oblation from you is a graven image of your own making. When, in order to get something from your god, you have to appease him with a libation, you are worshipping a false god. The god with whom you drive a hard bargain is certainly not worthy to be worshipped.
On the other hand, YAHWEH Adonai is not a petty trader. You cannot, and you do not, trade with the God of the Bible. The Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient God is Sovereign over all, He does not need your sacrifice and offering. All He asks of you is your obedience and surrender.
1 Samuel 15:22
“Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”
The Almighty God is the Creator of all things. The cattle on a thousand hills belong to Him. He does not need your tithes or offerings.
Psalm 50:7-15
“Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;
your burnt offerings are continually before me.
I will not accept a bull from your house
or goats from your folds.
For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the field is mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and its fullness are mine.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
For those of you who are followers of Pastor Adeboye, you better pay attention. If you choose to believe what the old man says even when what he says contradicts the Bible or what he says is not taught in the Bible, know that you belong in a cult and not in a Church.
And this is what you ought to know about cults and cult leaders. Every cult disparages the Cross of Christ. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the Truth will be maligned.
Cult leaders are God’s judgement on those who would seek to have their itching ears tickled and would not endure sound doctrine. These larger-than-life preachers use their massive influence and huge platforms to push erroneous teachings to their impressionable followers.
What these evil men teach are doctrines of demons that imperceptibly corrupt the soul and cause those who consume them to end up on the broad road that leads to destruction without even realizing it.
2 Peter 2:3
“In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.”
Titus 1:10-11
“For there are many who are…empty talkers and deceivers...They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.”
