THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is not an enigma, or an impersonal force or influence. He is not a power generator that you switch on whenever you want to put on a spectacular display of your “anointing” for your audience. The person of the Holy Spirit is not an external power source you connect to in order to be energized for some action. The Holy Spirit is not a “thing” you tap into for transcendental experience.

The Holy Spirit is not a power transformer for self-actualization or self-realization. He is not an inner energy or chi to be activated to achieve full potential. The Holy Spirit is not a genie you’ve locked up tight in a bottle to be released when you want your greedy wishes to be granted. 

The Ruach of God does not possess you and makes you lose your mind. He doesn’t take control of you and causes you to lose control of yourself. The Holy Spirit will not knock you to the ground in the name of being slain in the anointing.

The Spirit of God is not a weapon of mass destruction. He is not a weapon in your arsenal that you wield to fight your earthly foes. The Holy Spirit is not an oracle that you summon to destroy your enemies. He is not a fire that you can unleash to consume those you hate or despise. The Holy Spirit is not a juju that can be used to put a curse on those who step on your pride.

The Holy Spirit is a person; the third person of the Godhead. He is the promise of God by which those who believe in Christ are sealed unto the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit understands the mind of God and he searches out everything and shows us even the deep secrets of God.

The Holy Spirit lives inside of those who have been saved. He is the power of God enabling the believer to both will and do of God’s pleasure. The Spirit of Holiness helps the child of God to know and do the will of God. He assists all those who are the redeemed of the LORD to walk through life sanctified until they are glorified.

The Holy Spirit is the Counsellor who teaches the Believer all things and reminds him of all things. He is the Comforter, i.e., Advocate, sent by the Lord Jesus Christ to stand beside all those who believe to plead their case in the presence of the Almighty God. The Holy Spirit is the Guide who leads those who are the children of God.

It is the Holy Spirit who endows every believer with special gifts, i.e., spiritual enablement, unique to each person, and with which they build the Body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities when we pray, and He intercedes on our behalf. He also speaks to us as we study the written Word of God helping our understanding and revealing to us the plan and purpose of God through His Word.

Whenever we go wrong and transgress the commands of God, it is the Holy Spirit that convicts of sin, nudges our spirits, and leads us to the place of repentance and restoration. The Holy Spirit is the Divine Prosecutor who will one day convict the world of sin.

Every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

BECAUSE JOB DIDN’T TITHE, HIS LIFE BECAME TIGHT

By Akin Ojumu Being the trust-but-verify guy that I am, while fact-checking a social media post by one of my High School friends, in which Bishop David Oyedepo was quoted to have linked the adversity of Job to his tithing habit, I was shocked, but not at all surprised, to find a 2019 video that did indeed confirm what my good friend shared.  In Bishop Oyedepo's telling, the real cause of Job's afflictions was his failure to pay tithes. According to him, God removed Job's divine security and allowed Satan to buffet him with calamity because the man was a habitual tithe defaulter.
