HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR FAUCI

By Akin Ojumu

Although you may not be able to tell by looking at him, Dr Anthony S. Fauci turns 80 on Christmas Eve. As an avid runner, the tireless fighter of infectious diseases does about 3.5 miles of running on a daily basis, despite his almost 20-hour daily work schedule. The man is physically fit as a fiddle and he’s mentally as sharp as a tack.

In an interview with Slate Magazine, Dr Fauci was asked about what he was looking forward to right now that he is 80. His response was:

“I’m looking forward to crushing and ending this outbreak the way, we did with smallpox, the way we did with polio, the way we did with measles. I think we’re going to do it in the next year. If enough people in the United States get vaccinated … we can turn this around from a threat that’s scaring the heck out of everyone to something that is behind us."

Happy Birthday, Boss! Thank you for what you do. The COVID exhausted people of this nation thank you for being who you are; a plain-speaking truth-teller from Brooklyn. The whole world can’t wait for the time when this deadly virus is crushed and life returns to normal.
