ABOMINABLE PRACTICES IN THE CHURCH (PART I)

Image
“The Things the Lord Hates” By Akin Ojumu King Solomon tells us about the six things that the LORD hates. In his Book of Proverbs, the wisest man that ever lived shows us the seven things that are particularly abhorrent to the LORD God Almighty. These are abominable practices that often cause the pure and Holy God to retch and throw up in disgust. Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies,  and one who sows discord among brothers.” Beyond the seven detestable things described in the above passage, however, there are many other practices mentioned in the Bible that are abominations to the LORD. Among these are the following. (1) Sexual Immorality e.g., Adultery, Homosexuality, Bestiality, Incest Leviticus 18:22-23 “You shall not lie with a male as with a ...

ARE YOU BEING CHASED BY EATERS OF FLESH & DRINKERS OF BLOOD?

Image
By Akin Ojumu Leke Sanusi was a guest minister at Jesus House Baltimore recently. While there, he led the gathered crowd in a series of prayers. Several of the prayer points Mr. Sanusi asked the people to pray were, to say the least, very troubling. But I found one of them to be particularly disturbing. Burning with zeal and blowing hot with fury, Leke Sanusi commanded the people to take a partner and pray the following: “Say, my friend. My friend. Eaters of flesh. Drinkers of blood. That have been chasing you. Searching everywhere for you. We return to sender. Without success. In the Name of Jesus. I pray for you, my brother. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Any eater of flesh. Any drinker of blood. That has been chasing you. Searching everywhere for you or for anyone in your family. Tonight, they will return to sender. God will feed them with their own flesh. The Lord will get them drunk with their own blood like sweet wine. That’s the Word of the Lord in Isaiah 49. I pray for you tonigh...

TAKING THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN

Image
By Akin Ojumu With Sinai Mountain bellowing thick smoke, and with thundering and lightning, quaking and loud trumpets, YAHWEH laid down the terms of His contractual agreement with the children of Israel. If they kept their end of the bargain and they chose to obey all of His commandments, He promised to bless them beyond measure. Deuteronomy 11:13-15 “And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.”   Should they, on the other hand, decide to breach the contract, catastrophic consequences would be the result. YAHWEH made it clear to them that failure to keep even one of the commandments would lead to severe ramifications. Deuteronomy 11:16-1...

FOR WHOM THE FACE OF GOD SHINES

Image
By Akin Ojumu In demonstration of His matchless love for Israel and as a promise of His abiding presence with His people, the LORD instructs Moses to tell Aaron and his sons to bestow a benediction upon Israel.  Numbers 6:22-27 “The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them: יְבָרֶכְךָ יהוה וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ (Yevarechecha Adonai v'yishmerecha)  יָאֵר יהוה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיִחונֶךָ (Ya'er Adonai panav elecha v'yichuneka)   יִשָּׂא יהוה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם (Yisa Adonai panav elecha v'yasem lecha shalom) “The Lord bless you and keep you; “The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; “The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.” This is a prayer of God’s blessing, protection, provision and affection for His people. Whenever they bestow this prayer upon th...

CONNECTING THE DOTS OF JOSHUA SELMAN'S ANOINTING

Image
By Akin Ojumu Joshua Selman is not the type that shies away from talking about the sources of his power. When it comes to the root of his anointing, the guy is proud of his ancestry. On numerous occasions, he has told his followers and admirers that he is a beneficiary of encounters. Like a collector of fine things, Selman is a connoisseur of what he calls “graces.”  From campgrounds to burial grounds, Joshua Selman goes to and fro and all over the place praying for encounters, craving for mantles, and seeking for anointings with hunger and expectation in his heart.  Disciples of Joshua Selman are well acquainted with the names of the God’s “Generals” and powerfully “anointed” Fathers of the faith who have influenced him and his ministry over the years. They’ve heard him tell the story of a time while he was watching William Branham’s interview on the Television one night, he experienced a profound and strange phenomenon that radically changed the trajectory of his life. ...

SCRIPTURE IS MORE THAN SUFFICIENT

Image
By Akin Ojumu Scripture is a gift from God. Inspired and authored by the Holy Spirit through the agency of men, it’s the only inerrant, infallible, sufficient, and final authority for the Church. God’s written Word is His primary revelation.  Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. ” The Bible is the means by which God speaks to us today. Every time you are reading the Bible, what you are reading are the very Words of God. So, if you want to hear God speak to you, read the Bible. If you want to hear God speak to you audibly, read the Bible out loud.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 “His di...

WHERE THERE IS NO VISION

Image
By Akin Ojumu Satan is a theological shape shifter. He has a hundred different ways to disguise false teaching and to appeal to us. Our enemy is one who masquerades as an angel of light. Sometimes the wolves vary just slightly from the truth. There’s just enough deviation from what is actually true that unless you are really discerning, you are really paying attention, they can get away with promoting their errors. And other times their deviation is 180 degrees from the truth.  Sometimes the wolves are libertines who openly promote sexual immorality amongst the people of God. And sometimes the wolves are legalists whose rigid standards of morality also deny the Gospel. There are two extremes of theological and doctrinal errors and there are two extremes of the wolves who promote those errors. Sometimes the error is a worldview or a way of thinking about the truth, not an outright denial that truth exists. And other times the error or the wolf is just an outright denial of the truth...

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SPIRITUAL

Image
By Akin Ojumu Silverware is the currency of success in any team sport. The successful sports club is one whose shelves and showcases are garnished with silverwares. You don’t have to go far to ascertain the veracity of that statement. Just ask the long-suffering fans of any sports club that has not won a single competition in their history. Those poor blokes will give an arm and a leg, and even their eyes, just to win one single silverware,no matter how inconsequential. But I digress. Now, back to the subject.  Not unlike football, there’s also a currency of success in Christianity i.e., an objective measure of triumphant Christian living. I’m talking about Spirituality. You can determine, with a high degree of accuracy, who’s really a Christian by the depth of the person’s spirituality. The mark of a true Christian, and the currency of successful Christianity, is spirituality. At this point, you must be thinking, “What?!!!” Silverware? Currency? Spirituality? Bro, what in the worl...
