A TWO-MILE CHURCH IN A ONE-MILE WORLD (PART III)

Image
“The Christian Code of Conduct” By Akin Ojumu Nevertheless, the Captain of our salvation did not leave us without a proper manual of operation. He provided us a handbook of instructions for living an acceptable Christian life, one that leads to eternal life.  By His divine power, we've been given everything we need to live a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. In His Sermon on the Mount, the King of kings laid down the Code of Conduct by which those who are called by His name shall live joyously and victoriously even through the trials and tribulations that the enemy of their faith brings their way. These rules of engagement are totally antithetical to the modus operandi of this world. In a series of “You have heard that it was said, thou shall or shalt not,” the Lord deconstructs the moral code of the present age and establishes a far more superior set of rules to guide the behavior of those looking forward to the coming age.  ...

A TWO-MILE CHURCH IN A ONE-MILE WORLD (PART II)

“The Christian Life Is A Boot Camp” By Akin Ojumu “Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him. (2 Timothy 2:3-4). As an enlisted man or woman in the Lord's army, the Christian is immediately thrust into the frontlines where the battle between the forces of the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness is fiercest. Without much of any training, the Believer in Christ finds himself in the middle of the fight for the souls of men. What he thought was going to be an easy ride all the way to rapture, he quickly discovers that life as a Christian soldier is a much rougher experience than taking a ride on a monster roller coaster. With all sorts of faith-crushing IEDs littering the road he travels, and with his bed stuffed with soul-piercing thorns, the warring Christian soldier faces real and ever-present danger of losing body parts or paying ...

GOD WATCHES PORN WITH YOU

Image
By Akin Ojumu Todd White, Senior Pastor at Lifestyle Christianity Church located in Watauga, Texas, says God sits in bed with porn addicts to watch pornography. He claims that the Almighty God even waits for them to reach climax. Seriously, that blew my mind. I had never heard that before. I used to think the eyes of the LORD are too pure to look on evil and cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Oh! How wrong have I been? When I talk about this craziness going on the Church, some of you think Brother Akin – (for those of you who still consider me a Christian brother) –  is just a killjoy and a Debbie Downer rabble-rouser who is going through midlife crisis and now trying to rain on your parade. This video is yet another one in a long line of depravity and debauchery that has taken hold in the Body of Christ. Wake up from your slumber, people!!! We are at war!!!

"Laissez Faire Christianity" By Akin Ojumu Anyone who tells you that living a Christian life is a cushy bed of roses scented with lavender is either trying to pull a fast one on you or simply has no idea what it means to be a follower of Christ in a world that despises nearly everything that Christ represents. What such a person knows about being the light of a world enshrouded in darkness amounts to little, and what he understands about becoming the salt of an earth rotten to its core, rates less than a sentence in a very fat book. Sadly, but not surprisingly, there are many Christians who hold on to the erroneous notion that coming to Christ will make all their problems go away. There are far too many in the Church who are hooked on the Kool-Aid that salvation is the resolution of all their life's worries. Having been force-fed on the steady diet that getting born again will bring about the dissolution of all troubles, such individuals develop a warped perception of God...

THE GOSPEL IS NOT A MORAL LESSON

Image
By Akin Ojumu In what can only be deemed as the gaffe of the year, self-styled apostle, Arome Osayi, let slip what all modern-day showbiz preachers try to hide from their gullible followers.  Boasting in a recent video about how he performed miracles at a Catholic Church, the magician declared that the Gospel has nothing to do with morality. In his own words, he admonished his captive audience to, “Please go and look for power. The Gospel is not moral lesson.” "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45). Knowingly or unknowingly, Arome Osayi spoke out what's in his heart.  This is what these false prophets and false teachers never wanted you to know about them.  These folks have no regard for the moral codes of the Bible. The ordinance of God that we should flee from all iniquities and His commands to us to ...

MOSES' DOWNLOAD FROM THE CLOUD

Image
By Akin Ojumu Just as the advancement in information technology has revolutionized our lives, so also has it upended our ever-evolving lexicon. Buzzwords such as Cookies, Domain, Firewall, IP Address, Internet of Things, LAN, Megabyte, Server, Ransomware, 5G etc., have been coined by geeks with spiky goatees. And nerdy kids with thick fingers have forced these techie terms into our everyday lingo.  As one writer in Vox rightly said, "The problem is that these sometimes nebulous or arbitrary terms don’t make it clear what they actually mean to consumers." When I hear the term "cookies," for instance, what I think of is that baked crunchy snack or dessert that is typically small, flat and tasty, containing flour, sugar, egg, and some type of oil, fat, or butter, and may include other ingredients such as raisins, oats, chocolate chips, nuts, etc. But not so in IT. In the nerdy world, cookies mean something entirely different and totally unrelated to that little chewy r...

JESUS CHRIST ON PRIVATE JET

Image
By Akin Ojumu The Reverend Lucy Natasha, aka God's Oracle, is a Kenya-based new generation end-time minister with a prosperity-prophetic-apostolic bent. The up-and-coming social media influencer is young, flashy, loud, colorful, and eloquent. As the honey draws the flies and the carcass attracts the vultures, Lucy Natasha surely has the same alluring pull to her followers as the fruit had on Eve after she had been discombobulated by Serpent’s lies. The Oracle of Chanel went on a Kenya TV station a couple of years ago for an interview. And as she was wont to do, she arrived with her entourage of heavily armed security personnel and a bevy of hangers-on. When asked about her source of wealth and how she could afford her flamboyant and lavish lifestyle, Lucy Natasha replied with the following memorable words. “And even Jesus Christ, if he was in our days, I believe he would use the fastest means of transportation. Which would be airplanes, private jets. So, there's nothing wrong w...

A FAITH IN GOD THAT SAVETH NOT

Image
By Akin Ojumu Gone are the days when getting identified as a born-again Christian was akin to being outed as a closet homosexual. Those were times when to be unmasked as one of the born-agains was to provoke the wrath of parents, incite fury of siblings, and invite the ridicule of everyone else.  Back then, many born again believers paid a hefty price for yielding to the tug of the Holy Spirit on their soul. The “SUs", as they were derogatorily called back then, endured relationship schisms, encountered academic upheaval, experienced job loss, and incurred financial ruin. For many of these "holy rollers", life after answering the altar call became a living hell. But that was then, and this is now. Born-againism has since become fashionable. Nowadays, every Tom, Dick and Harry is born-again. The armed robber cum kidnapper caught in the act is born again. The unscrupulous politician who hoards COVID-19 relief food supplies meant for his constituents is equally born again. ...

ONLY A CURSED NATION MAKES ITS ELDERS CRY

Image
By Akin Ojumu This video is an excerpt from a speech given by the distinguished professor of virology, Oyewale Tomori, on Monday, December 6, 2o21, at the National COVID-19 Summit organized by the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) in Abuja .  The speech was interrupted several times as the heartbroken elder statesman, who wears his emotions for Nigeria on his sleeves, choked up in tears and wept multiple times for the rot and decay that has taken over his beloved homeland. First, Professor Tomori unmasked the real enemies of Nigeria, which he described as the four pillars of Nigeria's under-development and backwardness. COVID-19 is not the enemy.  Lassa fever is of minor league.  Yellow fever is yellow-livered.  Monkey pox is child's play.  Cholera is a dehydrator.  Our under-development and backwardness rest on 4 pillars.  They are the real enemies of our nation. And they are: (1) Lack of patriotism, the destroyer of our nation, (2) Self-interest,...

THE REMNANTS OF GOD

Image
By Akin Ojumu I'm not a member of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. While it’s true that I have several family members who are lifelong staunch Deeper Lifers, I have never worshiped at a Deeper Life Church, except for one occasion many years ago when I attended an evening service with my big brother. There are just certain doctrinal positions of the church that I don't share and do not comport with my understanding of Scripture. I guess when we get to heaven, we’ll know who’s right and who got it wrong. Nevertheless, as much as I disagree with Deeper Life on a host of doctrinal issues, there’s one thing for which I respect the church and its General Superintendent, Pastor Kumuyi. Their fidelity to the true Faith and the consistency with which the true Gospel is preached is unparalleled. It is on these fundamental tenets of the Christian faith that the Deeper Life Bible Church and I have common ground and share a common cause.  Among the megachurches in Nigeria, Deeper Life is...
